Jan 23rd...
Everyone loves dramatic before & after pics. This staircase has been an ongoing project, and we finally got the first coat of paint on this weekend. This is one of those jobs that was really easy to underestimate. Way back in the summer, Kate sanded the steps & handrail as dad & I sanded the floors. We then stained the steps a few shades darker, and put on 7 coats of Varethane. It was then left untouched until the fall, when dad primed the risers & ballusters. Finally, Kate and I (and JT) attacked it with paint this weekend. It's one of those jobs where you keep stepping back as you work... the transformation is so dramatic. All in all a huge success, and one of jobs where the cost really is minimal... just paint and Varethane.
